The Fabulous Flexible 28mm Spanish Tercio

The latest addition to my Dutch Revolt collection is a big chunk or Spanish Pikemen. They are a mix of Gamezone and Citadel (plus the odd Foundry and Warlord figure).

Coming full Circle?

There are a lot of excited Nerds around at the moment. The pre-orders for Nu-Necromunda must be pouring in. If Shadow war was anything to go by then Necromunda:Underhive is going to be a massive hit for GW. I have to admit to being lured in by the hype myself. I've watched a couple of interviews with chief specialist bod, Andy Hoare, and his enthusiasm for the game is infectious. He's a player a collector and a generally lovely bloke. The rejuvenation of 1995's Necromunda with two redesigned gangs and 2D board looks like it'll have some great gameplay and has pushed the GW game format in a different direction to 8th edition 40K.

But...as I was gathering info about the game and working out how it might work it occurred to me that something was going on. The type of gamer I am (and the this applies to the people I'm lucky enough to play games with) will no doubt appreciate the game as it comes out of the box but I have a sneaky suspicion that we will fairly quickly try and push the boundaries. The game isn't even out and I want to mess with it.

Rogue Trader - The Opening Statement

That is the first full statement you read in the 1987 Warhammer 40,000 : Rogue Trader rule book.

It was important.

Dutch Revolting

The table before the action kicked off, complete with brand new windmill

I thought you'd like to share some of the pics I took of the Dutch Revolt game I ran at the club I've started to attend in Devon. I'm not going to write a complete report as I've already written one for the clubs website. You can read it here if you like.

Fantasy before fantasy was fantasy.....

This list of British fantastical creatures popped up on Twitter via James Holloway a little while back and started a little thought ticking away I'm my head. It originally comes from Denham Tracts (1892-5) and was reportedly where Mr Tolkein got some of his creatures names. I'm sure you'll recognise various names from the Fantasy games you know and love but it got me to thinking about building a fantasy setting where these kinds of things are a reality rather than just a tale to scare kids.

Piking and shooting

Just a quick post to show off what I've got done so far for my Dutch revolt project. I stupidly offered to run a game at the club I've been attending in Devon so I need to pull the finger out and get stuff done. Above is the full dutch regiment. They have all been shown on the blog before but it's the first time I've put them together as a unit.

Pointless Anthropology - Ogres

Once upon a time someone gave Jes Goodwin the task of designing a range of Ogres. It wasn't the first set of Ogres the GW ever made. There were some left overs from the Runequest and Fiend Factory ranges and there was Golfag's ogre regiment as well but still, Jes was asked to do some. 16 classic models later (plus a another 5 in the redesigned Golfag's) and you have the most iconic image of the Warhammer Ogre ever created. Never mind the current fat plastics. The only thing that ever came close since were the Marauder Landsneckt Ogre's but the Jes ones probably still have the edge. So now, as we gasp at the stupid prices that BIN muppets ask for the classics on fleabay, we must ask ourselves a very important question.

What the fuck is an Ogre?

As with all creatures of a fantasy bent they come from somewhere.

Rogue Adventures in Comic Land

Whilst chatting on line with some of my Septic chums (as well as others around the globe with less amusing national nicknames) the topic of how awesome 2000AD was came up. Being a brit and having lived with the worlds greatest comic always lurking in the background (even if you abandoned it for a while like you did with all things Warhammer - Stupid teenagers......and 20 somethings.....etc), it's easy to assume that it's all powerful brilliance has pervaded ever corner of the world and that all personages of a particularly nerd bent should know all about it.

Turns out that's not that case.

Sure, Judge Dredd is pretty famous. After all he's had two films made about him but that is about all the general public know of 2000AD's output and the average non brit 40K player doesn't know much more (to be fair many outside a certain age don't know bugger all either).

Thugs for the memories

A long, long time ago in a bedroom far, far away I pored over every edition of White Dwarf I got my hands on like it was the latest holy revelations from a distant galaxy. In no 104 there was a load of Realm of Chaos goodies including this fantastic article about converting you Chaos figures to reflect the mutations that the gods have seen to fit to bestow on their followers.

Big RT game

This was our big sunday RT game. It had started off as me and Mr Papfakis having a small game but it quickly developed into nearly a dozen guys and their toys. I'm not going to go into depth as both Mr Papafakis and AirborneGrove have both done a good job of writing up the game so you can wander over to them to read the words. All i'm going to do is leave you with some pictures so that yo can see the actions from my side of the table. Have fun.

Not so Eternal Champions.

The mysterious powers of Law and Chaos stretched their tendrils through the planes of existence and summoned 8 of the many faces of the Eternal Champion to attend to a matter of the gravest importance.

Along with them came 8 of the lives of the eternal companion, ready to aid the champions in their tasks.

The Boys at Boyl (but 1st WHW!)

My team enter the dark caverns
As you may already know if you tead Axiom's blog, rather than dive straight into BOYL, it has become almost traditional for the boys to meet up at Warhammer world on the Friday and indulging in some old school gaming under the very nose of the newly fluffy and not corporate at all, Gw.
